BB&T Leadership Development ProgramBB&T has been ranked consistently as the Number One Small Business Friendly Bank in America. It's an important part of our Community Banking philosophy to have the right staff in our branches to meet the needs of this very important segment of our business.

For the Business Banking Concentration of our Leadership Development Program, we look for candidates who are highly motivated, who can understand the particular needs of businesses, and who enjoy working with entrepreneurs.

This concentration prepares you for a career as a Business Services Officer - Relationship Manager or Business Services Officer - Portfolio Manager. You will receive training in the development and marketing of commercial credit products, credit underwriting, risk management tools, and business development techniques. You will be expected to understand and meet the needs of commercial clients.

As a Business Services Officer - Relationship Manager you will be expected to:

  • Interview applicants to develop financial and credit profiles.
  • Develop, approve, and service business loans for small business, commercial, and individual clients.
  • Assume responsibility for proper documentation and review of accounts.
  • Monitor loans to ensure complete conformity with terms.
  • Develop contacts and relationships in the wider community.
  • Cross sell Bank services whenever possible.
  • Maintain a proven history of above average credit and portfolio management skills.
  • Actively market noncredit services.
  • Keep abreast of changing business trends that impact the small business and commercial segments.

As a Business Services Officer - Portfolio Manager you will be expected to:

  • Support and ensure the integrity of the underwriting process.
  • Evaluate and confirm risk grades assigned to the credit.
  • Monitor adherence to established risk management standards.
  • Ensure completeness of the underwriting file content.
  • Monitor portfolio-level reports on key risk management issues.
  • Ensure compliance with credit review standards.

All concentration tracks consist of an intensive 10-month training curriculum of classroom and on-the-job training in leadership, technical, supervisory, and sales skills. The Leadership Development Program provides Leadership Associates with a strong foundation to take responsible positions in their areas of concentration and offers them excellent opportunities for career advancement throughout the corporation.
