Applying

How many participants will BB&T hire for the centralized Leadership Development Program this year?
BB&T plans to hire approximately 100 Leadership Associates for the January and July classes.

Is the LDP a rotational program?
No. Candidates will interview with and be offered positions in a specific department or division of BB&T. The program does provide an overview of each division through orientations and interaction with senior management.

What if I have an MBA?
The LDP is designed for individuals with bachelors and masters degrees. The curriculum provides challenging training for both education levels.

Does BB&T sponsor H1B1 Visa applicants?
No. BB&T does not sponsor H1B1 Visa applications for the LDP. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis without needing to be sponsored.

Does BB&T have a graduate assistance program?
Yes. BB&T has a tuition reimbursement program for those who decide to pursue a master's degree with the approval of the Regional President or division leader.

Interviewing

What should I expect from the interviews?
The interviews generally will focus on behaviorally based questions. BB&T interviewers will be assessing and discussing your internships or work experience, leadership abilities, ambition, communication skills, and overall fit with BB&T.

How many different LDP positions may I interview for?
You may express interest in all of the positions the LDP has to offer. We will work with you during the first and second interviews to determine the best match for your skills, and if you are made an offer, it will be within a specific concentration.

What if I am not sure which position or department I would be a fit for?

Who takes care of the travel arrangements for first and second interviews?
You will be responsible for handling all of your travel arrangements and expenses for the first interview. For the second interview, we will pay all travel expenses. Typically, you will make the travel arrangements. Depending on the distance you are traveling, the LDP Recruiting team will provide driving directions and accommodations, and put together an interview schedule. If a flight is required, you will contact our contracted travel agency to make arrangements.

Being in the Program

What is a typical day like in the LDP?
Most days are spent from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in a classroom setting, though each day is different and some may include visiting speakers or instructors. There are times when you will leave the classroom for a unique training experience such as spending time with one of BB&T's Executive Management members, or joining your fellow Leadership Associates on a teambuilding exercise.

Will I travel during the LDP?
Yes. BB&T's footprint is very large, and we want to ensure that you are exposed to as much of it as possible. Leadership Associates participate in on-the-job training while in the program, giving you the opportunity to visit different areas of the bank while practicing the skills and knowledge you have learned in the classroom.

How many hours per week will I typically work?
Our typical workweek is around 40 hours.

Where does the Program take place?
The 10-month training program will take place at the BB&T University in Winston-Salem. Advantages to being trained at the BB&T University include access to Executive and Senior Management and networking opportunities, a strong team atmosphere, and exposure to BB&T's culture and values at all levels. BB&T University offers excellent training facilities, staff and resources to facilitate the LDP.

Does the LDP provide Leadership Associate housing?
Leadership Associates must arrange for their own living accommodations. There are many apartments near the University with opportunities for short-term leases.

What is appropriate attire throughout the program?
Plan to dress in business professional attire for most of the LDP. Business casual dress will be allowed occasionally during the Program.

How much vacation time will I get?
Vacation days are prorated based on your start date. You will have a designated summer or winter break depending on the start date of your class.

Will I be required to relocate after graduation from the LDP?
Very likely. BB&T strives to give each Leadership Associate the best opportunity to succeed in performance and leadership. The bank will place you in the best location to do that.
