| A Unit Investment Trust (UIT) is a fixed securities portfolio sold in a limited number of units, generally to investors who wish to receive regular income. Usually the portfolio consists of corporate or municipal bonds, although some UITs consist of stocks. UITs are a sensible investment option if you would like the advantages of diversification, and cannot afford to put together a comparable portfolio of individual securities, or if you want to receive a regular income stream. |

- Typically, a UIT has a finite life, since all bonds in the portfolio either mature or are called.
- When you invest in a UIT, you receive interest payments and your principal is returned over time.
- If you invest in an Equity UIT, bear in mind that units will be redeemed at a price which could be more or less than the original amount paid.
Like all investments, Unit Investment Trusts involve investment risk, including loss of principal. Investors may also be charged a management fee by the products investment advisor.
