Prevx SafeOnline
What is Prevx SafeOnline?
The antivirus software on your PC guards against viruses, but it doesn't protect your identity on the internet. Prevx SafeOnline—provided free of charge—creates an extra layer of security for the passwords, account numbers and other personal details you provide when conducting business or having fun online.
What does Prevx SafeOnline protect?
Prevx SafeOnline helps protect the personal information you share on the internet, things such as login IDs, passwords, account numbers, credit card numbers, social security numbers—even identifying details such as addresses and dates of birth. Criminals target this data with phishing schemes and malware attacks, but Prevx SafeOnline fights them off.
Prevx SafeOnline:
- Checks the sites you visit to make sure they are genuine
- Checks that you are entering your login details into the correct site
- Helps guard your personal data—even after a malware attack
Will I still need to use antivirus software on my PC?
Yes. Prevx SafeOnline gives you added protection that’s not found in typical antivirus software. But it does not fix or remove viruses and malware like antivirus software does. For that, Prevx is offering BB&T customers Prevx 3.0 Internet Security—which specializes in detecting and removing the latest threats (see below)—at a discounted price.

Will the Prevx SafeOnline software slow down my PC?
No. The download file is less than 1 MB, so it arrives in seconds. And once installed, the software is extremely light, with minimal impact on the speed of your PC. In addition, the software maintains a real-time link to Prevx so you never have to worry about updates. It’s always up-to-date with the latest threats.
System Requirements and Compatibility
What are the system requirements for Prevx SafeOnline?
The software will run effectively on most systems. For best performance, Prevx recommends these minimum specifications:

- 128MB of RAM
- Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family or compatible processor
What operating systems and browsers support Prevx SafeOnline?

Installation
Is Prevx SafeOnline difficult to set up?
No. Prevx SafeOnline is easy to set up and run. It takes just a few seconds to download and install, after which you will be fully protected. Once installation is complete, an information page will be displayed explaining how to use the software.
Do I need Admin rights on my PC to install Prevx SafeOnline?
Yes Admin rights are needed to install the software. Home users typically already have Admin rights on their PCs, but users installing on a network might need to contact the administrator.
My system says an infection is blocking installation of Prevx SafeOnline. What should I do?
Try installing the software once more. If you are still not able to install it, contact Prevx support.
The Prevx SafeOnline software is asking me to enter proxy settings. What should I do?
This most often occurs when Prevx SafeOnline has been installed on a network, such as at work or a business. Because the software uses the internet to get the latest threat information and to run scans, it needs your proxy settings to establish the needed connection. Typically, your proxy settings are your network username and password, but if you’re not sure, contact your network administrator.
How do I uninstall Prevx SafeOnline?
It’s unlikely you’ll ever want to uninstall Prevx SafeOnline. But if you wish to do so, follow these steps:
- Open Control Panel
- Select “Add or Remove Programs”
- Select Prevx from the list
- Click “Remove”
Once the above steps are complete, restart your PC to fully reset your system. If you wish to reinstall Prevx SafeOnline sometime later, feel free to do so. There are no restrictions.
Day-to-Day Use of Prevx SafeOnline
Will Prevx SafeOnline interfere with my use of the internet?
No. The software is designed to be unobtrusive, alerting you that a website is secure via a tab that appears above your browser’s URL bar. Your surfing will only be disrupted if the software identifies a threat, in which a warning message will be displayed.
What does the blue tab mean?
The blue tab is the default state for all standard (HTTP) websites. When the blue tab is displayed, Prevx SafeOnline is protecting you against malicious websites which may try to install viruses, adware, etc., on your PC, or which might be fraudulently trying to get you to enter personal or banking details (a practice called phishing).
What does the green tab mean?
The green tab is the default state for all secure (HTTPS) websites, such as online banking tools and online shopping checkouts. This mode completely secures your browser, increasing the protection of your personal information even if your PC is infected with malicious software. When this tab is displayed, Prevx SafeOnline is protecting you against all forms of online fraud, including keyloggers, screen grabbers and other kinds of attacks.
Why am I asked if I want to secure my password on a website?
The password protection feature is available for Internet Explorer users and adds an extra layer of protection from phishing. When you enter a password on a secure (HTTPS) website, Prevx SafeOnline will ask if you want to protect the password for use only on that website (or on multiple, specific websites). You’ll also be asked if you want to save and protect your HTTPS passwords automatically in the future. [If you choose to turn off password protection, you can turn it back on by selecting the Reset button on the Prevx SafeOnline console.]
Due to the configuration of Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera, it is not currently possible for Prevx SafeOnline to prompt users of these browsers to protect their password when they are accessing a website. However, users of these browsers can manually protect their passwords using the Prevx SafeOnline credential protection feature.
Does the Prevx SafeOnline software know my password?
Prevx SafeOnline never stores your password. Instead, an irreversible mathematical calculation called a Hash is used to create an equivalent of your password, which Prevx SafeOnline uses to confirm that your password is only sent to websites for which it is intended.
My other security products need to be updated every day. Will Prevx SafeOnline require me to obtain updates every day?
No. The software updates automatically.
Is there a user guide for Prevx SafeOnline software?
Prevx SafeOnline Alerts
What is the Prevx SafeOnline security review?
The security review report is displayed in your browser when Prevx SafeOnline detects an issue with your PC security. It explains the current state of your operating system, browser and security software, and recommends any steps you should take to ensure your PC is fully secure. The report also lists any infections on your PC and suggests corrective actions.
Prevx SafeOnline says a website I am trying to access is a phishing site. What should I do?
When Prevx SafeOnline identifies a phishing website, it is recommended that you block the website, stop any in-progress downloads and close the browser. If you think the site should be a legitimate one but you followed a link to access it, the problem might be with the link, in which case you can try again by opening a new browser and manually typing a URL you know is valid.
Prevx SafeOnline says the login I'm typing doesn't match the site I'm on. What should I do?
You likely stored and protected these particular credentials for use with a different website, so Prevx SafeOnline is alerting you that you might be inadvertently entering them at the wrong site. Or you may have been re-directed to a fake website that’s out to fool you and steal whatever credentials you enter. Choose “Close” to not go to the website, or “Allow” to go there.
