Changing Your User ID and Password

You can change your User ID and Password at any time by clicking the Change User ID or Change Password link in the Customer Service tab. If you access BB&T OnLine using Quicken or QuickBooks, you will also need to update your password in those programs. BB&T OnLine has some requirements around the formatting of your User ID and password. These requirements are for your security, and will help protect you by making your User ID and password harder to guess.

Your User ID can be any combination of letters and numbers from 8 to 15 characters long. A User ID cannot contain spaces or special characters. The first character of your User ID must be a letter. User IDs are not case sensitive.

Passwords must be between 8 and 12 characters. Your password must contain at least one letter and one number, and cannot contain special characters or a sequence of the same character repeated more than twice in a row. Your password also cannot be exactly the same as your User ID. Passwords are not case sensitive.

There are other steps which you can take when choosing a User ID and password which will help protect you. Your password should never be the same as your User ID. Avoid using easily obtained personal information, such as your name, the names of family members, or pets' names. It's also wise to avoid license plate numbers, telephone numbers, social security numbers, or any other information which is available in the public domain. For both a User ID and a password, choose something which is a combination of letters and numbers, and avoid words contained in dictionaries.
