Good news about deposit account numbers

We're pleased to tell you there will be no merger-related changes to checking, savings and money market account numbers for the vast majority of clients. And more good news—there will be no changes to routing numbers related to these accounts.

For most clients with these accounts, this means:

  • There's no need to order new checks or deposit slips.
  • Your direct deposits will continue as usual.
  • Automatic drafts that use your account number and our routing number will remain unchanged.
  • If you currently use wire services, no changes are required to your wire instructions (account number or routing number).

If you're one of the few clients who will have a deposit account number change, we'll contact you ahead of time and guide you through the process.

More ATM access—now

For your convenience, you can start using your BB&T debit or ATM card at any SunTrust ATM to make cash withdrawals—with no ATM fees. For all other transactions, continue to bank as you normally would.

For now, bank with us as usual

For the immediate future, there will be no changes to the following BB&T accounts and services:

  • Checking, savings and money market account numbers
  • Checks and deposit slips
  • Direct Deposit and automatic drafts
  • Paper and online statements
  • ATM cards, debit cards, credit cards, and associated PINs

General questions

How much notice will I be given about changes that affect me?

In the immediate future, you can expect very little changes about your accounts and the way you bank. You’ll be informed every step of the way as we make the full transition to Truist. Watch your mailbox and email in the coming months for additional information. Will there be any changes to my accounts and services?

As our integration continues, our goal is to make this a seamless process for you and all of our clients. We're happy to report that most clients won't have changes to account numbers for checking, savings and money market accounts as a result of the merger. On top of that, routing numbers tied to those accounts won't change for most clients either.

What this means for most clients:

  • Any direct deposits will continue as usual.
  • Automatic drafts from checking, savings and money market accounts that use an account number and routing number will remain unchanged.

If you're one of the few clients who will have a deposit account number change, we'll contact you and make the process as seamless as possible.

Do I need to do anything different to log in or interact with branches and ATMs?

Keep banking as you usually do. However, you can start using your BB&T debit or ATM card at any SunTrust ATM to make cash withdrawals—with no ATM fees.

Until our separate operating systems are fully integrated, you'll continue to see the BB&T name at our financial centers and ATMs, on our printed materials, and here at the BBT.com website.

To ensure you don’t miss any important messages, please log in to your account at BBT.com or through the U by BB&T® app and update your phone numbers and your mail and email addresses.

In the immediate future, very little will change about your accounts and the way you bank.

Will the phone numbers I have for my bank or contact center change?

For now, just keep banking and doing business with us as you usually do. In the coming months, you’ll receive more information, with plenty of advance notice of any changes that might impact you.

Is my branch going to close?

We do anticipate branch closings as a result of this transaction. Should your branch be affected, you'll be promptly notified. While some branches may close, our commitment to being an active member of our communities is unwavering, and local branches will continue to play a key role for Truist.

Where can I find current branch locations and hours of operation?

Visit BBT.com or SunTrust.com or contact 800-BANK-BBT (800-226-5228) or 800-SUNTRUST (800-786-8787) for branch locations and hours of operation.

Will my day-to-day contact or relationship manager at BB&T or SunTrust change?

For now, your day-to-day contact with us won't change. You should continue to bank as you normally do, business as usual. While the merger transaction is complete, the integration of our two companies will take time.

Rest assured, we remain committed to helping our clients achieve economic success and we'll preserve our community bank model. We'll provide you with much more information in the coming months to make this a smooth transition for you.

Will your service offerings be different? How will your client service change?

Our service offerings and client service will only be better as a result of this transaction. This highly complementary combination will enable us to accelerate investment in transformative technology to embrace disruption and create a more distinctive client experience. Truist is better positioned to serve you, delivering the best of both institutions' talents, systems and processes. As a combined company, we are committed to delivering a superior client experience.

Can I use a SunTrust or BB&T ATM now and not be charged a fee?

Your BB&T debit or ATM card can be used right now at any SunTrust ATM to make cash withdrawals, with no fees. For all other transactions, continue to bank as you normally would.

Can I use SunTrust branches, online banking or call their 800 number for service now?

For now, it remains business as usual. Your day-to-day contacts, online banking websites and phone numbers are not yet changing. You should continue to bank with BB&T as you normally do.

Can I make a deposit, payment or other transaction at a SunTrust branch?

Your BB&T debit or ATM card can be used right now at any SunTrust ATM to make cash withdrawals with no fees. However, for all other transactions, continue to bank with us as you normally would.

When will I be able to use SunTrust branches or ATMs for my banking?

While more exciting changes are ahead, your BB&T debit or ATM card can be used right now at any SunTrust ATM to make cash withdrawals, with no fees. However, you should bank with us as you normally would until our operating systems are fully integrated.

When will we start seeing SunTrust and BB&T signs and ATMs replaced with the Truist brand?

It will take some time until our transition is complete. Until that time, you’ll continue to see the BB&T name on our branches, ATMs, websites and printed material.

Who can I direct feedback to about the merger?

Contact BB&T at 800-BANK-BBT (800-226-5228) or SunTrust at 800-SUNTRUST (800-786-8787).

Will my accounts still be covered by FDIC insurance?

Your deposits at Truist will continue to be insured by the FDIC up to the maximum amount allowed by law. Any deposits you held separately at BB&T and SunTrust prior to the date of the merger will continue to be insured separately for a period of six months from the merger date. Any deposit made to an account you open on or after the date of the merger at BB&T is a Truist deposit for FDIC insurance purposes.

Certificates of Deposit (CDs) are insured separately for six months from the merger date or until maturity, whichever is later. In addition, if you have a CD that is renewed for the same term and amount during this six-month transition period, the CD will continue to be insured separately until the next renewal date.

After the six-month transition period, your deposits at the former BB&T and the former SunTrust will be added together for the purpose of determining the amount of your FDIC coverage at Truist. Your total deposits at Truist that are in the same ownership rights and capacity will be insured up to $250,000.00.

If you have more than $250,000.00 in total deposits at the combined banks, you may call the FDIC directly at 877-275-3342 for more information about how your funds may be insured at Truist.

What technology improvements can we expect to see with the merger, and when?

Once our separate operating systems are fully integrated, you’ll experience a new level of digital banking, giving you faster access to your information from virtually anywhere, via any smart device. There will also be lots of behind-the-scenes upgrades that will allow us to be more responsive to your needs.

What can I do to protect myself against fraud?

Protecting your information and identity is our priority. BB&T will never send unsolicited emails, phone calls or texts asking you to provide, update or verify your personal or account information, such as passwords, Social Security numbers, personal identification numbers (PINs), credit or debit card numbers. If you receive an email that appears to be from BB&T (or Truist) and requests confidential personal information, ignore the message and report it to us at InternetFraud@BBandT.com. Discover what you can do to avoid scams with the help of our cyber security checklist and tips on BBT.com/Security.

Making of the brand

Building a brand is about more than just a new name. Here's how BB&T and SunTrust used a little science, a little art and a whole lot of collaboration to begin creating a financial services company that stands for better.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

TORI MINER: Building a name, it's this great balance of creativity and strategy, of science and art, and of the heart and the mind.

SUSAN JOHNSON: It's not about putting together two entities, two great companies. We're building something new, something incredible, so it deserved a new name.

KIM MOORE-WRIGHT: We have to signal to the future. We have to signal to where we want to go and where we need to be as a new organization as well. The innovation, the innovative thinking, how we're going to continue to iterate, the point towards technology, that has to be signaled in a new name.

DANIELLA BIANCHI: Well, we always say that a brand is much more than a name.

BRIAN DAVIS: It's that magical mixture of pulling together the strengths, the things that you do so well, combining those, and then within that, reinventing yourself.

MIGUEL SEPULVEDA: This is exciting. This is something that's going to be transformational not just for the client experience, but for the industry as a whole.

SARAH CREED: This is so much more than a rebranding exercise. We're creating something new together for our companies and our clients.

CORRINE CUTHBERTSON: We're renaming a new company. We're creating a brand from scratch. We're meeting new people. We have a great agency partner in the mix alongside us. And we're thrilled.

TORI MINER: It's been really important throughout this process to ensure we're engaging teammates and associates in the creation of this brand.

KIM MOORE-WRIGHT: We had associate and teammate workshops that we did. We had interesting games and so forth that we did to be able to engage them.

TORI MINER: From the beginning, we gathered their insights through our more than a name game to think about the concepts and ideas, and even potential names, that they thought were really resonant for where we want to go.

KIM MOORE-WRIGHT: Not just a name game, a more than a name game.

SUSAN JOHNSON: Think of all the permutations. We had 16 different choices, 16 different attributes. Both companies doing the contests separately coming up with the same four.

JOLI MURTHA: I think we've got the right team assembled where we're working together, we're working with the agency partners, going through the right thoughtful process. I think we'll have something great in the end.

BRIAN DAVIS: We have done so much research, whether it's qualitative or quantitative, talking to associates, teammates, clients about what resonates with you right now about your company and your culture and who you are to clients.

DANIELLA BIANCHI: Normally, we say that branding is not a project, it's a process. And it starts, but it never ends. So this is the thing. We're all on this journey now, and forever, building this new brand.

TYKE ARBAUGH: There was a lot of laughter. There was a lot of getting to know each other that allowed us to get started that way rather than start just diving into business immediately.

CORRINE CUTHBERTSON: When people are excited about the name, they want to know more. They want to know where is the brand going. And people contact us on the daily, I think, asking, what's the name? What is it? So it's an exciting time.

CHRIS CAMPBELL: I would say that both teams, it's very evident, have a shared set of values.

SARAH CREED: This has been the turns and twists of a movie script. We're just about at the premiere. It's really, really thrilling.

CORRINE CUTHBERTSON: You name it, people have just gotten on board and worked around the clock to make things happen. So the collaboration from both sides has been phenomenal.

SUSAN JOHNSON: Ultimately, when we announce the brand, it will be—it's just a beginning. It's just a starting point. But it's going to take all of us to actually bring it to life. The first financial services brand, the first, built in the digital age with a scale to transform the client experience.
