Overview

BBT.com provides information about and access to financial services offered by the BB&T Corporation family of companies. BBT.com is managed by Branch Banking and Trust Co., a subsidiary of BB&T Corporation. This page explains our online information practices when you visit the BBT.com website. Unless otherwise specified, this policy does not apply to any other website of any other BB&T company, or to any other website even if such websites are accessible through BBT.com. This policy may be modified at any time by changing the notice on this page.

What are Cookies?

A cookie is a small file placed on your computer's hard drive by the web server. Cookies can only be read by the web server that sent the cookie to your browser, and they cannot be used to retrieve any personal information, your email address or personal information stored on your computer. Cookies cannot reveal any personally identifiable information about you. The cookies used by us are not data miners or key stroke loggers and do not contain viruses.

To browse anonymously, you may set your browser to disable cookies or delete cookies. See Disabling Cookies below. Please note that disabling cookies for some services may impact your ability to use that service.

How BB&T Uses Cookies

BB&T uses session cookies to assist in delivering some online transactions. Session cookies are necessary if you want to use some online services such as BB&T online banking. Session cookies are no longer active after you log off the service that initiated them and all session cookies are automatically deleted when you close all open browser windows.

BB&T does not collect or store personally identifiable information through the use of cookies. Through the use of persistent cookies, BB&T is able to learn how visitors use our site, such as which pages are viewed the most, to identify the most common navigation paths, or to customize the presentation of information on the site. BB&T may contract with third parties, including but not limited to, Omniture, to track visitor activity on our website. Omniture uses cookies to track information about user visits, such as date and time of visits, pages viewed, time spent at the site, and site visited just before/after visiting the BB&T site. The user activity is reported to us in the aggregate and is anonymous. We use this information to understand how users interact with our website. While these cookies remain on your computer after you log off, they do not contain any personally identifiable information. You should refer to the Omniture privacy policy to learn how they collect and use information. These companies are prohibited from using the information they gather for their own purposes or from sharing this information with others.

Disabling Cookies

Customers may choose not to accept cookies. Your web browser may alert and permit you to refuse cookies. When you receive an alert, you may choose at that time to refuse that cookie. If the use of cookies is a concern to you, then please make sure your browser has this capability, and that you set your browser to alert you accordingly. Newer browser versions allow you to be alerted or to automatically refuse cookies. You may need to download a more current version of your web browser from your service provider in order to obtain this option.

Note: Some product features and services provided by BB&T require you to accept a cookie in order to be able to use the particular functionality or service.

Online Advertising

From time to time, BB&T contracts with advertising companies to advertise our products and services on third-party websites. Clicking on one of these ads will link you to a page on the BB&T website with information about the advertised product or service. To evaluate the effectiveness of our advertisements or banner ads, we may use cookies or other tracking technology. This technology is used only to measure responses to advertisements placed on non-BB&T websites and does not contain information that can be used to identify you personally.

Email

Email transmitted across the Internet is normally not protected and may be intercepted and viewed by others. Therefore, you should refrain from sending any confidential or private information via unsecured email to BB&T. We will not ask you to send confidential information to us via email, such as your logon ID, password, account numbers, or Social Security number. You should use Cisco Registered Envelope Service, which provides email encryption at BB&T, or the BB&T Contact Us form for secure communication. Occasionally, we will retain the content of your email and our replies to confirm proper responses to your questions/requests, to comply with legal and regulatory requirements, and to ensure the consistent delivery of our World Standard client service.

Children's Information

We do not knowingly collect or retain personally identifiable information from consumers under the age of thirteen. Your child's online privacy is protected by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Learn more about COPPA by visiting the Federal Trade Commission's website.

BB&T may provide you with access to information, products or services offered on third party websites through use of hyperlinks that move you from our website to a third party website. We are not responsible for the information practices of sites linked to or from our website. If you choose to access third party websites through links on our pages, we encourage you to read the privacy and security polices on those sites before you provide your personal information. Information obtained from third parties in connection with your transactions with them may be shared with BB&T for marketing purposes.
